PRODUCT LAB
Building product judgement through real-world experience
Product Lab is a system designed to turn real product work into structured thinking and practical learning

CONTEXT
Most product knowledge doesn’t reflect how product actually works.
Frameworks and best practices are useful, but they assume a level of clarity that rarely exists in real environments.
In practice:
- problems are not fully defined
- information is incomplete
- decisions are made under uncertainty
Product Lab is built to operate in that reality.

THE PROBLEM
Most product work is framed as a structured process.
Problems are clearly defined.
Requirements are documented.
Decisions follow established frameworks.
But in reality, that’s rarely the case.
Product teams operate with:
- incomplete information
- evolving requirements
- unclear constraints
And yet, decisions still need to be made.
THE SHIFT
Product is not about following frameworks.
It’s about making decisions under uncertainty.
The ability to move forward without having everything defined.
To prioritise without perfect data.
To navigate trade-offs without clear answers.
This is where product work actually happens.
THE SYSTEM
Product Lab is designed as a system.
Not as isolated content, but as a structured way to turn real product experience into better decision-making.
Each element serves a different purpose, but they all work together.
HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS
Each element in Product Lab exists to address a different gap in how product is learned and practiced.
Not in isolation, but as a connected system:
- Experiments generate real insights
- Toolkits help structure those insights
- Product Coffee captures patterns over time
Together, they build product judgement through repeated exposure to real decisions and trade-offs.
🧪 Experiments
Real product situations, broken down step by step.
Not just what happened, but how decisions were made.
- Context and constraints
- Problem framing
- Key decision points
- Trade-offs and implications
The goal is not to document outcomes, but to understand decisions.
🧰 Toolkits
Tools designed to structure thinking.
Not theoretical frameworks, but practical ways to approach real product problems.
- Defining problems clearly
- Framing opportunities
- Making decisions with incomplete information
They are designed to be used in real situations, not studied in isolation.
☕ Product Coffee
Short reflections based on real work.
Patterns that repeat across teams, products and contexts.
- Common mistakes
- Recurring tensions
- Lessons learned over time
Over time, these reflections reveal patterns that are not visible in isolated cases.
HOW IT ACTUALLY WORKS
Product Lab is built from real product work.
It comes from situations I’ve worked on directly.
Problems that needed to be solved, decisions that had to be made, and contexts where there wasn’t a clear answer.
My role is not to simplify them, but to make the reasoning behind them visible.
That means:
- Breaking down how a problem was understood
- Identifying what really mattered
- Making explicit the decisions and trade-offs involved
Each piece is then structured so it can be used.
Not as a reference, but as a way to approach similar situations.
WHAT THIS BUILDS
Product Lab is not designed to teach frameworks.
It is designed to build product judgement.
The ability to:
- make decisions with incomplete information
- identify what actually matters
- navigate trade-offs without clear answers
Over time, this creates a different way of working.
Less dependent on process.
More grounded in understanding, context and decision-makin

Product Lab in practice.
